Mr. David Afriyie is a Ghanaian entrepreneur and business leader whose work reflects a strong commitment to education, enterprise, and community development. He is the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Golden Group of Companies, a growing group of businesses with interests across education, media, commerce, and healthcare.

A Vision Rooted in Education

In 2007, Mr. Afriyie founded Gold Avenue School in Old Ashongman, Accra, beginning with a vision to provide children with quality education in a nurturing and purposeful environment. What started as a preschool has grown into a full educational institution comprising preschool, primary, and junior high school (JHS), with the development of Gold Avenue Secondary Technical School further expanding the institution’s educational vision.

Together with his wife, Mrs. Tina Dodd Afriyie, the director, principal and a dedicated team of educators, Mr. Afriyie has overseen the school’s growth and development, including strong academic performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the establishment of international partnerships.

For him, education is more than academic achievement. It is about creating opportunities, nurturing potential, building character, and preparing young people to make a meaningful contribution to society.

Building Beyond Education

Mr. Afriyie’s entrepreneurial journey extends beyond the classroom. Through his business ventures, he has established a diverse portfolio that includes CityGold Jewellery Ghana, a well-known jewellery and wedding ring retailer in Accra.

His various enterprises have since been brought together under the Golden Group of Companies, which includes interests in media, retail, and healthcare. The group’s ventures include Homebase TV Ghana, Jingle FM 90.9, Colors Mall, and Royal Clinic.

Recognition & Impact

Mr. Afriyie’s contribution to Ghanaian business, education, and media has earned him recognition over the years. In 2017, he was honoured at the Lifetime in a Portrait Awards for his contributions to the development of Ghanaian media and basic education.

Beyond formal recognition, he is also respected for his commitment to his staff, students, and the wider community. His support for education and community initiatives has contributed to efforts to improve educational outcomes within the local municipality.
